Commands and Requests
Understand firme, espere, pase, and make polite requests back.
Formal commands matter because officials, clerks, doctors, and servers use them constantly. You also need them for polite requests.
Commands you will hear
- Come in · go ahead.
- Wait here.
- Sign here.
- Have a seat.
- Check your information.
- Come back tomorrow.
Negative commands
Put before the command.
- Do not come in.
- Do not sign yet.
- Do not worry.
Polite request commands
You can use a command with , but as a beginner, it is often safer to use .
- Repeat, please.
- Can you repeat, please?
- Explain it to me, please.
- Can you explain it to me, please?
Attach object words to commands
With affirmative commands, object words attach to the end.
- Help me.
- Tell me.
- Send me the address.
- Wait for me a moment.
You can still use the easier polite version:
